Elections

The City Clerk is the Supervisor of Elections for all city elections. Elections take place on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November of all even numbered years. The term of office begins on the first Tuesday in December and is a four-year term.

Election Dates

November 2, 2010

Run-off election if needed – December 7, 2010

Offices on Ballot Currently held by:

Council Seat 4 – Councilor Fred E. Lee

Council Seat 5 - Councilor John Weldon

Qualifying Period:

Will be announced.

If a candidate subsequently decides not to run, they may have their name removed from the official ballot by filing a notice of withdrawal with the City Clerk no later than the last day of qualifying. Any candidate who has not withdrawn their nomination by the last day of qualifying cannot have their name removed from the ballot.

In order to qualify as a candidate a person must:

  • Be a resident for at least six months

  • Complete a nomination form with signatures of
          at least 25 qualified electors

  • Sign an acceptance of nomination by candidate form

  • Pay a State Fee 1% of salary of office sought

  • Pay City Qualifying Fee-
         $100 for Mayor or $50 for Councilor

Election Packets:

Election packets can be picked up in the City Clerk's Office 9-5, Monday through Friday.

The handbook contains election laws, report forms, political sign regulations, precinct locations, precinct maps, and a variety of additional materials relating to campaign financing and running for public office.
