Get a Police Record Check?

Many people come to the Neptune Beach Public Safety Department to obtain a record check. There are numerous reasons for a person to request a records check. These reasons include, but are not limited to, employment applications, security applications, liquor permit applications, etc.

Often when people come to the Neptune Beach Public Safety Department, they are under the impression they will be able to get a comprehensive records check. Since that is not the case, this publication will outline what service is available and what procedure is to obtain the service.

What is a "records check"?

Typically, when an individual asks for a records check, they are asking for a summary of their past, which includes any traffic citations received, or criminal cases filed.

Local Records Check

The Neptune Beach Public Safety Department can only provide information if it occurred in the City of Neptune Beach. This records check will reflect only the adult criminal and traffic record of the Neptune Beach Public Safety Department. Juvenile Records are exempt from F.S.S. 119.07(1). Juvenile records are confidential 39.0132(3), (4)(a). If you received a citation or were arrested in any other city or state, it would not show up on your records check at the Neptune Beach Public Safety Department. A "local" record check can and will be performed by the personnel of the Records Section at no charge.

Criminal History

To obtain a comprehensive records check (Criminal History) private citizens, governmental licensing and employment entities may obtain this information by special request from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. FDLE is the repository of all criminal histories for the State of Florida. You will be required to submit a written request with applicable fees. You may contact FDLE for specific information at (850) 410-8110.

Driving History

To obtain a comprehensive driving record check you must contact the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. There are applicable fees, you may write to: Bureau of Records, P.O. Box 5775, Tallahassee, FL 32399, call (850) 487-4303, or visit the local Driver Licensing Office (1720 N. 3rd Street, Jacksonville Beach) to obtain details.
