Fats, Oils & Grease

Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) left over from cooking can cause problems when poured down the drain. These FOG residues when poured down the drain can clog pipes in our homes and the sanitary sewer collection system in our streets and right-of-ways. These clogs prevent sanitary waste water from getting to our municipal waste water treatment plan, and can cause backups into homes and streets. The results can lead to a sanitary sewer overflows (SSO) that can result in pollution getting into our stormwater systems, creeks, and water bodies. Prevention is the best way of preventing impacts to our receiving waters. Collect FOG in a container and dispose of it in the trash. We ask that our all our residents avoid pouring FOG down the drain. When a SSO does occur, prompt response is the best way to reduce negative impacts. Please contact (904) 270-2400 Ext. 31 to report any suspected SSO in your area.
