Illicit Discharges & Illegal Dumping

Illegal dumping is the improper disposal of waste materials in a non-permitted area, such as in the street, gutters, inlets, back yards, vacant property, streams, creeks, ditches or woods. Disposing of trash, yard waste, pet waste or pouring liquid wastes down storm drains or into curbs and gutters can also qualify as illegal dumping.

Such illegal dumping may result in the pollution of our water bodies from grass clippings, leaves, litter, pet waste, paints, chemicals, oils, grease, metals, and turbidity. Spills, leaks, sanitary sewer overflows, and illicit dumping or discharges can introduce a wide variety of pollutants into stormwater and into the storm system.

Prompt response to these occurrences is the best way to prevent or reduce negative impacts to receiving waters. We ask that our residents help keep our community clean by properly disposing of all their wastes and reporting suspected illegal dumping to (904) 270-2400 Ext. 31.
