Public Works Kicking Off Water Service Pipe Inspections

City Seal

On December 22, 2020, the Environmental Protection Agency finalized an update to the Lead and Copper Rule which in part requires community water systems, regardless of size, to develop and maintain an inventory of potable water service pipe materials that the public can access. The inventory must identify materials for both system-owned and customer-owned segments of the service line for each unique customer. Utilities must submit the initial inventory by October 16, 2024. To learn more about the requirements, please click here.

Beginning Monday, November 20, 2023, our Public Works Employees will be removing dirt from within water meter boxes to visually identify water service pipe materials. Results will be recorded within a database and eventually shared with our customers.
